Mastering Anxiety: How I Overcame Self-Doubt and Learned to Believe in Myself

Anxiety has a way of creeping in when you least expect it, doesn’t it? As a mom, an entrepreneur, and someone who’s constantly juggling responsibilities, I know how overwhelming life can get. For years, I struggled with anxiety, constantly feeling like I wasn’t doing enough, achieving enough, or simply being enough. It took time—and a lot of work—to overcome it. Today, I want to share my journey and the strategies that helped me not just manage my anxiety but thrive despite it.

The Cycle of Anxiety

For the longest time, my image of success and happiness was tied to my finances. I’d set a goal, achieve it, and immediately move the goalpost further. It became a never-ending cycle of “what’s next?” instead of enjoying the progress I was making. This constant chase wasn’t just exhausting—it was anxiety-inducing. How was I supposed to overcome anxiety and find happiness when I was always chasing something just out of reach?

As moms, we tend to be especially hard on ourselves. We’re caregivers, problem solvers, and sometimes the last ones on our own list of priorities. I fell into the trap of thinking that taking time for myself was selfish. But I learned that self-care isn’t just important—it’s essential.

The Turning Point

The moment I realized I had to make a change was when I found myself completely drained, both mentally and emotionally. I knew I couldn’t continue living that way, especially as a mother. My son deserved the best version of me, and so did I.

That’s when I started implementing small, intentional changes into my routine:

  1. Meditation: I started meditating for just five minutes a day. At first, it felt impossible to quiet my mind, but over time, those few minutes became my sanctuary. Meditation taught me how to center myself, breathe through stressful moments, and find calm amidst the chaos.

  2. Building a Routine: I realized that anxiety thrives on unpredictability. Establishing a daily routine gave me a sense of control and stability. Whether it was waking up at the same time each morning or carving out time to journal, these small habits made a big difference.

  3. Finding New Hobbies: I explored activities that brought me joy and helped me step away from work and responsibilities. Whether it was experimenting with skincare, planning creative projects, or diving into a good book, these hobbies became my escape and a source of happiness.

  4. Redefining Success: I had to completely rethink what success and happiness looked like for me. Instead of tying my worth to financial milestones, I started celebrating small wins, like spending quality time with my son, prioritizing my health, or even just finishing a task I’d been procrastinating on.

  5. Getting Active: I committed to incorporating movement into my daily routine, even if it was as simple as going for a walk. I made it a goal to get at least 3,000 steps in each day. Those walks didn’t just boost my physical health—they became a mental reset, helping me reduce depression and clear my mind.

Self-Care is Non-Negotiable

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t pour from an empty cup. Moms, we have to make ourselves a priority too. Here are a few ways I started showing myself love:

  • Pamper Yourself: Schedule time to get your hair done, your nails, or even just a relaxing bath. Looking good often translates to feeling good.

  • Create a Skincare Routine: Taking care of your skin isn’t just about appearance—it’s a way to connect with yourself. I’ve shared some of my favorite Amazon finds for skincare that you can check out for inspiration.

  • Write It Down: Whether it’s journaling your ideas, your goals, or your problems, putting things on paper makes them feel more manageable. Once a problem is written down, it’s already halfway solved.

  • Exercise: Movement is medicine. Even on busy days, taking 15 minutes for a quick walk can work wonders for your mental and physical health.

Plan for the Future

Sometimes, anxiety comes from feeling like we’re not in control of what’s ahead. One thing that helped me immensely was sitting down and planning my next five years. It wasn’t about having all the answers but giving myself a sense of direction and purpose. I broke my goals into actionable steps, and suddenly, the future felt less overwhelming.
